The European Central Bank has launched 3 new traineeship campaigns:

 

PhD Traineeships in the Stress-Test Modelling Division: https://talent.ecb.europa.eu/careers/JobDetail/PhD-Traineeships-in-the-Stress-Test-Modelling-Division/3910      

As a PhD trainee, you will contribute to the development of models for the assessment of financial stability risks (also climate-related ones) and the impact of macroprudential instruments (both capital-based and borrower-based) using methods such as structural and Bayesian VARs, panel regressions and other microeconometric approaches, integrated micro-macro frameworks, as well as DSGE and network models. This might also include working on the infrastructure of the stress-test models.

The position offers excellent opportunities to become familiar with the area of macroprudential policy and financial stability through different tasks and projects. You will be able to develop your potential and gain an overview of all the activities performed by the Directorate General, and may also contribute to its regular work. You will have your own assigned supervisor, but will be expected to use your own initiative and work in a largely autonomous way in order to complete your projects.

You will be able to attend a wide range of seminars and will have access to the ECB’s library, as well as computing, programming and statistical resources. Traineeships in the Stress-Test Modelling Division: https://talent.ecb.europa.eu/careers/JobDetail/Traineeships-in-the-Stress-Test-Modelling-Division/3858    

- participate actively in the general work of the Division, including: (i) preparing data for regular internal and external publications; and (ii) helping to prepare presentations for management and senior management;
- participate – through data collection and research assistance (including code development) – in relevant analytical projects, the development of stress-test models (including climate stress-test models) and macro-financial policy assessment;
- contribute to the maintenance, updating and further development of databases for stress testing, as well as for financial and real sector developments;
- contribute to the development of user visualisation tools and programs/code for efficient data processing, while facilitating user access to complex datasets.

Traineeships (bachelor’s/master’s and PhD level) in the External Developments Division: https://talent.ecb.europa.eu/careers/JobDetail/Traineeships-bachelor-s-master-s-and-PhD-level-in-the-External-Developments-Division/4055    

As a trainee you will perform one or more of the following tasks: 

- providing research assistance for, and possibly co-authoring, analytical projects that are based on original empirical analyses;
- providing research assistance by building and maintaining modelling tools using advanced econometric programming skills;
- for the data management group, contributing to the Division’s products and processes, which may include: assisting with data collection, programming tasks and analysis, and preparing presentations for senior policymakers; handling, maintaining and further developing databases used to monitor global and country-specific monetary, financial and real sector developments, with a particular focus on enhancing the use of data visualisation tools; contributing to the analytical work of the Division by setting up and running statistical and econometric processes.

As a trainee you will work closely with highly qualified experts on different tasks and projects in the field of international macroeconomics, giving you valuable experience for your transition to a successful professional career. You will also be assigned a mentor and will be able to develop your potential and quickly contribute to the work we do. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.

                                   

Who can apply:

Students, including PhD students, or recent graduates can apply for a traineeship.

 

All candidates should:

- be at least 18 years old;
- be a national of a Member State of the EU or of an acceding country;
- have completed at least a first cycle qualification (minimum bachelor’s degree);
- be fluent in English and in another official language of the EU.

Following their most recent qualification candidates should:

- have a maximum of 12 months’ professional experience;
- have been a trainee for no more than six months;
- not have been an ECB trainee or have worked for the ECB previously.
